Hi all,

I created an RTF file containing my "help" info,
and I added it to be installed along with the program
I wrote, but when I ran the program and pressed F1,
an error dialog said that the help file doesn't
contain "that topic", without specifying which it is.
I have not figured out how to add a topic ID to my
RTF file, so my help file contains only 1 rtf file.
Can someone tell me, what topic ID is the Windows code
looking for and how do I add it to the RTF file?

Thank you.

What program are you using to create your help file? If it's Microsoft
Help Workshop (hcw.exe), see the topic called "To add a topic ID to a
topic" in the accompanying help file. The basic procedure is to insert
a # footnote mark at the start of a topic -- on Word's Insert menu,
select Footnote and then enter # in the Custom Mark field -- and then
type a unique topic ID as the footnote text. The following website
provides a summary of the procedure:

http://www.thebits.org/tutorials/bhelp.asp

Once you've created the help file, you can connect it to your
application by following the instructions in the articles listed here:

Thanks, I was indeed using HCW.

However I decided it was easier to just create a dialog in
response to F1. It would also be easy to start a web browser
or wordpad.
