Hi,

I tried compiling a project done by an outgoing technical writer. When
I tried clicking on the links in the compiled .hlp file, I got the
following error message:-
The topic does not exist. Contact your application vendor for an
updated help file (129). What does this mean? I have no means of
contacting the previous tech writer who did this work.

I looked at the projects Window, but there seem to be no broken links.
There is a file mentioned in the External Help files section
(dependencies section of the Project window) that I do not have. I
have no idea what the contents of this external help file are. Could
this be the source of the problem?

Any suggestions as to what I can do? I am totally breaking my head
here (especially since I am not familiar with WinHelp).

Thanks in advance

I think this error means you don't have those topics in the MAP
section of the Help Project file. This section associates the
IDs use in the Help file with values sent by the program when
the various items are clicked.

Can you check the source of the WinHelp project to determine which topics
are the targets of the broken hyperlinks? You may find that these topics are
compiled into the missing help file mentioned in the External Files section.

Some other reasons why you might get the 129 error message:
