Just to clarify: can you let us know which help authoring tool you're using
and your method for adding the equals sign to the index keyword? There
shouldn't normally be a problem using the equals sign in the index, but
you'll need to switch from a binary index to a non-binary "site map" index
in order for the equals sign to appear in the Topics Found dialog box (which
is displayed when you click an index keyword that has multiple targets).

If you want to read up on the differences between site map and binary
indexes, there is extensive information in the online help for HTML Help
Workshop (available online at http://tinyurl.com/63do6).
